Rootility, an innovative root-focused plant breeding Company, today announced that seed industry executive Andre Goig has joined its Board of Directors.
Mr. Goig brings a wealth of experience in the global seeds industry to Rootility. He most recently served as Regional Head of Europe, Africa and the Middle East at Syngenta, where he led Syngenta's $4 billion Agrochemical and Seed activities businesses. From 2004 to 2010, he also served as Global Head of Vegetable Seeds. Prior to that, Mr. Goig was appointed to leadership roles at legacy Syngenta companies, including Novartis Seeds and Sandoz Agro.
“We are honored to have Andre join our Board,” said Rafael Meissner, Founder & CEO of Rootility. “He has achieved extraordinary success in his career as both an industry executive and entrepreneur, and his unique mix of experience will be a tremendous asset as we build and expand our business.”
Rootility has developed a novel non-GMO breeding selection system which enables the Company to breed better root systems that greatly enhance crop yields. Rootility has proven its technology for various crops.
Its first set of products are aimed at the processing tomato sector, where Rootility has proven in large scale trials with one of the world's largest processing tomatoes company, that when its rootstocks are grafted with existing commercial varieties, yields increase substantially, water consumption is reduced by up to 40%, the crop is better able to fight off disease, all while maintaining the quality required by the customer.
"Rootility is on the verge of changing the vegetable seed industry, similar to the impact that 'transplanting' had in the 1980's, or 'drip irrigation' in the 1970's. Rootility has shown that it's grafted rootstocks enable growers to produce more with less, thereby making the growers more profitable and agriculture more sustainable. I am delighted to be able to contribute to the Company’s next phase of success,” said Andre Goig.
