In order to further develop its system, Good Seed and Plant Practices (GSPP) organized a general meeting in Agadir, Morocco on 2 & 3 March 2016. GSPP brought together nearly 80 participants from countries worldwide. An inspiring program was presented in the aims of discussing, exchanging knowledge and networking between partners. Furthermore Moroccan partners gave a lively and practical introduction on the business in the region of Agadir. All speakers gave food for thought and triggered the discussions.

In close cooperation with ASOL Maroc (Association des Semenciers Obtenteurs de Légumes du Maroc), GSPP invited seed companies, plant raisers, seed producers and other interested companies. All those companies work worldwide in the tomato production chain and are interested in disease management.

The first day, a meeting was held with renowned speakers, scientists and experts. They are mostly specialised in the prevention of Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. Michiganensis (Cmm) and in quality management systems. Key issues were on seed health testing, sampling, global surveillance of phytopathogens in the chain, the possibilities for plant raisers and the strategic development of GSPP. The second day, attendees were given the opportunity to visit three companies in the region of Agadir, of which two are GSPP accredited.

In the coming years, GSPP aims to intensify its communication to both plant raisers and growers to inform them about GSPP and to stimulate the demand for GSPP accredited seed and plant material. As a result, an increasing number of GSPP accredited plant raisers is expected. In addition, GSPP will urge companies to be transparent within the tomato production chain by improving the reporting to GSPP in case of an infection with (Cmm).

GSPP is the main international business chain system in the tomato production chain. GSPP’s international network is the key solution for the up-to-date development of a system to prevent tomato seeds and plants to be infected by Cmm. This network faces the above future challenges.

Afin de développer son système qualité, Good Seed and Plant Practices (GSPP) a organisé son Assemblée Générale à Agadir (Maroc) les 2 et 3 mars 2016, regroupant près de 80 participants du monde entier. Le programme établi a favorisé les discussions, les échanges de connaissances et les prises de contacts. De plus, les partenaires marocains ont présenté de façon attrayante leurs activités dans la région d’Agadir. Ainsi, tous les orateurs ont donné matière à réflexion et à discussions.

En collaboration étroite avec ASOL (Association des Semenciers Obtenteurs de Légumes au Maroc), GSPP a invité les sociétés semencières, les producteurs de plants, les multiplicateurs de semences et toutes les autres parties impliquées dans la filière mondiale de production de tomates et intéressées à la gestion de la qualité sanitaire.

Le premier jour était consacré à l’état de l’art de la prévention contre la bactérie Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (Cmm) et aux systèmes de management de la qualité. Les thèmes principaux portaient sur le contrôle sanitaire des semences, l’échantillonnage, la surveillance mondiale des pathogènes, les opportunités pour les producteurs de plants et le développement stratégique de GSPP. Le jour suivant, les participants ont eu la chance de visiter trois sociétés implantées dans la région d’Agadir, dont deux accréditées par GSPP.

Dans les prochaines années, GSPP vise à intensifier sa communication vers les producteurs de plants et ceux de tomates afin de mieux les informer et les inciter à demander des semences et plants accrédités GSPP. Il devrait en résulter une augmentation du nombre de producteurs de plants accrédités. De plus, GSPP invite les sociétés à être transparentes sur la filière de production de tomates en lui rapportant les cas d’infections par le Cmm.

Aujourd’hui, GSPP est le principal système international dans la filière de production de tomates. Ce réseau international est la solution clé pour le développement de la prévention sanitaire des semences et plants de tomates vis-à-vis du Cmm et répond aux défis mentionnés ci-dessus.

GSPP conferentie in Marokko: kennisuitwisseling en discussie

Op 2 & 3 maart 2016 organiseerde de Stichting Good Seed and Plant Practices (GSPP) een conferentie met het oog op de verdere ontwikkeling van haar accreditatiesysteem. Bijna 80 geïnteresseerden vanuit de gehele wereld verzamelden zich in Agadir voor de conferentie. GSPP presenteerde een inspirerend programma om onderling kennis uit te wisselen, te discussiëren en te netwerken. Tevens gaven Marokkaanse partners een interessante en praktische introductie over de productie van zaden en planten in de regio van Agadir. Alle sprekers gaven stof tot nadenken en prikkelden de onderlinge discussies.

In nauwe samenwerking met ASOL Maroc (Association des Semenciers Obtenteurs de Légumes du Maroc), nodigde GSPP zaadbedrijven, plantenkwekers, zaadproductiebedrijven en andere geïnteresseerde bedrijven wereldwijd uit voor deze conferentie. Ze zijn alle actief in de keten van de tomatenproductie en zijn geïnteresseerd in het voorkomen en controleren van plantenziekten.

Op de eerste dag was er een conferentie rondom Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. Michiganensis (Cmm) met gerenommeerde sprekers, wetenschappers en experts, de meesten uit GSPP’s eigen netwerk. Ook sprekers met specifieke wetenschappelijke kennis en ervaring met andere kwaliteitssystemen namen deel aan het programma. De belangrijkste besproken onderwerpen waren het bemonsteren en testen van zaden, het mondiaal bewaken van fytopathogenen in de keten, de mogelijkheden voor de plantenkwekers en de strategische ontwikkeling van GSPP. Tijdens de tweede dag werd de mogelijkheid geboden drie bedrijven in de regio te bezoeken, waarvan twee GSPP geaccrediteerde bedrijven.

In de komende jaren wil GSPP de communicatie met de plantenkwekers evenals tomatentelers verder uitbreiden. GSPP wil deze ketenpartijen informeren over haar accreditatiesysteem en de vraag naar GSPP geaccrediteerd zaad en plantmateriaal stimuleren. Verwacht wordt dat hierdoor het aantal GSPP geaccrediteerde plantenkwekers groeit. Verder wil GSPP activiteiten uitvoeren om de transparantie van bedrijven binnen de tomatenproductieketen te vergroten. Hiertoe wil GSPP haar meldingsprocedure in het geval van een bevestigde infectie met (Cmm) verbeteren.

GSPP is het belangrijkste internationale accreditatiesysteem in de tomatenproductieketen. Het internationale netwerk is een uitstekende oplossing om tot een vernieuwende ontwikkeling te komen, waarbij voorkomen wordt dat tomatenzaden en –planten geïnfecteerd worden met Cmm. Dit netwerk zal gezamenlijk de bovenstaande toekomstige uitdagingen gaan aanpakken.
