During this year’s CropTec event, BASF saw its most successful year in competition submissions with the hope of winning the Phantom 3 drone. Congratulations to the winner Mr Piers Shedden! Mr Shedden, a farm owner in Buckinghamshire, said of his win “this is a great prize and I’m very happy and grateful to have won it, so many thanks to BASF! I never seem to win anything so it’s great to have won something like this”.
In the fight against black grass, Mr Shedden hopes to use the drone to gain revealing footage on the best areas to spray currently blocked by the dome of the hillside. Looking to the future, he explains “we may upgrade the camera on the drone to an infra-red unit and use it to measure NDVI which we can then feed back into our system to product more accurate fertiliser prescriptions.”
