Help needed from Canadian wheat producers for wheat research

Canada
September 9, 2015

A new research project based out of the University of Manitoba needs your help to investigate the quality and gluten strength of CWRS wheat.

The project researchers, Dr. Harry Sapirstein and Dr. Paul Bullock at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, University of Manitoba, want to know how your farm-grown samples compare with those from experimental sites.

The researchers are seeking 250 harvest samples of CWRS varieties grown in 2015 from across Western Canada. They are looking for samples of the following varieties:

  • Glenn
  • CDC Stanley
  • CDC Utmost VB
  • Carberry
  • Cardale
  • Stettler
  • Harvest

Participants will receive a submission package and are asked to provide a 2 kg (5lb) sample, along with information about the field where it was grown. In return, participants will receive a complete analysis of their sample as well as a summary of all submitted samples.

Your participation in this program will help maintain the Canadian CWRS wheat brand as the premium breadmaking class worldwide.

For more information on how to participate, please contact Mike Cardillo, University of Manitoba at glutenstrength@umanitoba.ca. Please include “Subproject5” in the subject line of your email.

This project is being funded by the Western Grains Research Foundation, Alberta Wheat Commission, Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission, Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association and the Growing Forward 2 program.
