Pulse growers are being advised to test seed for germination, vigour and seed-borne viruses prior to sowing this coming season.
Pulse Australia Industry Development Manager (South-Central), Wayne Hawthorne, says that with small, shrivelled and rain damaged seed produced last year, seed testing for germination percentage and vigour is important to ensure adequate pulse establishment this year.
“Virus testing for Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV) and Pea Seed borne Mosaic Virus (PSbMV) will also be vital to ensure that those problems are not compounding,” Mr Hawthorne said.
Supported by growers and the Australian Government through the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), Pulse Australia provides growers and advisers with a central source of agronomic information via its website, www.pulseaus.com.au.
