The U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued certificates of protection to developers of eleven new varieties of seed-reproduced and tuber-propagated plants. They include cotton and tobacco.

The eleven certificates are being issued under the Plant Variety Protection Act. The certificates require that the varieties be new, distinct, uniform and stable. The owners will have the exclusive right to reproduce, sell, import and export their products in the United States for the duration of protection.

The certificates are:

• the Avalanche* variety of field bean, developed by NDSU Research Foundation, Fargo, N.D.;
• the 95Y01, 94Y80, 93Y52, 93Y14, 93Y40, 93Y51, 92Y70, 92Y50, 93Y13, 92Y72, RJS48001 and RJS47001 varieties of soybean, developed by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., Johnston, Iowa;
• the 075703 variety of common wheat, developed by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., Windfall, Ind.;
• the Thunder CL* variety of common wheat, developed by Colorado Wheat Research Foundation, Centennial, Colo.; and
• the Whit variety of common wheat, developed by Washington State University Research Foundation, Pullman, Wash.
• the ST 4427B2RF, ST 4554B2RF and ST 4664RF varieties of cotton, developed by Bayer CropScience LP, Research Triangle Park, N.C.;
• the 370001G, 450001G and 530001G varieties of cotton, developed by Monsanto Company, St. Louis, Mo.;
• the FM 1735LLB2 and FM 988LLB2 varieties of cotton, developed by Cotton Seed International Proprietary Limited (CAN 065 327 915) New South Wales, Australia, Bayer CropScience GmbH, Frankfurt am Main, Germany; and
• the AOB 175, AOB 171 and AOB 176 varieties of tobacco, developed by Alliance One International Inc., Morrisville, N.C.

* In the United States, seed of this variety (1) shall be sold by variety name only as a class of certified seed and (2) shall conform to the number of generations specified by the owner of the rights (84 STAT. 1542, as amended, 7 U.S.C. 2321 ET SEQ).
