The Supervisory Board of The Greenery bv has appointed Ton Wortel (55) as the company's General Manager. He will be taking up this position on 1 July 2014.
Mr Wortel has extensive international experience in both food and non-food retail and has worked for organisations such as Mediamarkt-Saturn in The Netherlands, Marktkauf Nederland GMBH and Dirk van den Broek supermarkets. Last year he did an interim restructuring project for Metro Cash&Carry in Ukraine.
Moreover, Mr Wortel has valuable experience with process management and strategy implementation projects. The experience he brings dovetails perfectly with The Greenery's cost-price leadership strategy. His comprehensive knowledge of international retail will help The Greenery to further sharpen its focus on retail and convert it into value.
Mr Wortel will direct his focus in the period ahead on the continued implementation of the company's cost-price leadership strategy. In the first six months of 2014, The Greenery already achieved a number of key milestones. In mid-March the restructuring of the Barendrecht Retail DC and Bleiswijk Trade DC had been successfully completed. Already 4% more volume is now being directly shipped from qualified grower sites and auction buyers can also have products shipped directly from the growers. The first six months of this year have also seen a significant decrease in avoidable failure costs.
It is important that we continue this trend over the next six months by focusing strongly on the growth in home-based transshipment and implementing new working methods based on the first-time-right principle. Coöperatie Coforta members have since expressed their appreciation through various channels for the vigour and drive with which these results have been achieved.
With Ton Wortel's appointment, Okke Koo will end his duties as interim General Manager of The Greenery on 30 June. We wish to thank Okke for his efforts on behalf of The Greenery and the inspiring manner in which he ushered in the new strategy.
