Oliver Manufacturing awarded 2014 Colorado Governor's Award for Excellence in Exporting

La Junta, Colorado, USA
May 7, 2014

Oliver Manufacturing (La Junta) is the legendary worldwide provider of innovative processing equipment for the agriculture, recycling, powder bulk, coffee, and mining industries, has been awarded the 2014 Colorado Governor's Award for Excellence in Exporting for noteworthy success in maintaining or increasing export sales. Winners of the award were formally recognized at the World Trade Day Conference Lunch on May 7, 2014.

“Oliver is honored to represent Colorado in the worldwide market,” said Jon Moreland, Oliver Manufacturing Director of Sales and Marketing. “We are happy to be recognized that we are doing a good job.” Oliver has been exporting its machines since it was founded in 1930, and in 2013 65% of its machine sales were exported with a large percentage of those to South America. “Although we are exporting worldwide, we made a strategic focus a couple of years ago to concentrate on South America for a couple of reasons,” said Jon Moreland. “First, the South American markets were very robust. And the second more important, was typically with the Northern Hemisphere, agricultural markets are cyclical and during a winter season we’d have a traditional slow down and we’d try to alleviate that by going into an area in the Southern Hemisphere that gave us a counter-cyclical market to keep our facilities busy the whole year around.”

Oliver Manufacturing was established in St. Louis, Missouri in 1930 by Oliver Steele, son of one of the developers of the first modern gravity separator. In the 1940s, disturbed by the labor violence that was plaguing St. Louis, Oliver decided to move his business to Rocky Ford, Colorado. In 2006, Oliver moved its manufacturing plant to a 200,000 square foot facility in the La Junta Industrial Park. On May 1st 2014, Oliver celebrated the Grand Opening of their new 14,810 square foot office building that was constructed adjacent to the existing La Junta manufacturing facility.
