Sinochem International acquired Monsanto Company’s pesticide business in some Asian countries

Beijing, China
February 29, 2008

On January 21, Sinochem International (SH: 600500), a listed subsidiary of Sinochem Corporation and Monsanto Company (NYSE: MON) co-announced that Sinochem International and its subsidiaries signed an agreement with Monsanto to acquire the latter’s butachlor and alachlor businesses and some other assets in some Asian countries.

In accordance with the agreement, Sinochem International would acquire Monsanto Company’s butachlor and alachlor related pesticide distribution network in Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Taiwan. The agreement will only take effect upon the terms and conditions provided being fully satisfied. The sale or transfer of the assets by Monsanto India subsidiary is yet to get the approval by the company’s Indian shareholder.

This acquisition is Sinochem International’s another strategic move to extend its agrochemical value chain following its successful acquisition of Jiangshan Agrochemicals in 2007, marking Sinochem International’s kickoff of its international operations, which is deemed beneficial to the long-term development of the company’s agrochemical business.
