Intermediate Resistance (IR) Nasonovia Nr:1 takes centre stage
The annual Discovery Field Days hosted by Enza Zaden in Twisk revolved around one central theme, Resistance makes the difference, in the specific: Intermediate Resistance (IR) Nasonovia Nr:1. Over the course of three energetic days, growers, partners, and colleagues from both the Netherlands and abroad came together to explore the latest developments in the leafy segment, with special attention given to combating the rapidly spreading Nasonovia aphid in iceberg lettuce.
Launch of four new iceberg lettuce varieties with IR Nasonovia Nr:1
The highlight of the event was the introduction of four new iceberg lettuce varieties which offer a full protection package, featuring the innovative IR Nasonovia Nr:1 resistance, full Bremia resistance (BL:29-41) and HR Nr:0. The Nasonovia Nr:1 aphid presents a significant challenge for growers across Europe. As this pest continues to cause serious issues in multiple regions, the urgency for effective and reliable solutions is growing rapidly. Together with other aphid control tools, Enza Zaden’ Intermediate resistance to Nr:1 is another valuable solution in the fight against Nasonovia.
Paul Huijs, Product Manager Leafy at Enza Zaden, explains:
“The new varieties are comparable to our existing and well-performing variety Eduardo. The trials we conducted over the past year are very promising. The new varieties will be available for cultivation by mid-2026.”
Nasonovia Conference: In-depth and practical knowledge sharing
On Thursday afternoon, the Nasonovia Conference welcomed over 60 professional growers. During this session, all relevant insights about the Nasonovia aphid Nr:1 were discussed, and the
performance of our IR-resistant varieties was shared. Together with our Enza Zaden’s experts, attendees visited the demo field, and the day concluded with an informal networking reception featuring drinks and tasty bites.

Tijdens onze jaarlijkse Discovery Field Days in Twisk stond één thema centraal: de Intermediate Resistance (IR) Nasonovia Nr:1. Gedurende drie inspirerende dagen ontvingen we telers, partners en collega’s uit binnen- en buitenland om samen te leren over de nieuwste ontwikkelingen binnen het leafy segment. De nadruk lag op de bestrijding van de snel oprukkende Nasonovia-luis in ijsbergsla.
Lancering van vier nieuwe ijsbergslarassen met IR Nasonovia Nr:1
Een belangrijk hoogtepunt van het evenement was de introductie van vier nieuwe ijsbergslarassen. Deze rassen combineren de innovatieve IR Nasonovia Nr:1 resistentie met volledige Bremia-resistentie (BL:29-41) en HR Nr:0. De Nasonovia Nr:1-luis vormt een groeiende uitdaging voor telers in heel Europa. Nu deze plaag in meerdere regio’s ernstige schade veroorzaakt, groeit de behoefte aan effectieve en betrouwbare oplossingen. Onze intermediaire resistentie tegen Nr:1 biedt, in combinatie met andere bestrijdingsmiddelen, een waardevolle aanvulling in de strijd tegen deze luis.
“De nieuwe rassen zijn vergelijkbaar met ons bestaande en goed presterende ras Eduardo,” vertelt Paul Huijs, Product Manager Leafy bij Enza Zaden. “De proeven die we het afgelopen jaar hebben uitgevoerd, zijn veelbelovend. We verwachten dat de nieuwe rassen medio 2026 beschikbaar zijn voor de teelt.”
Nasonovia Conference: verdieping en praktijkgerichte kennisdeling
Op donderdagmiddag organiseerden we de Nasonovia Conference, waar we meer dan 60 professionele telers mochten verwelkomen. Tijdens deze sessie deelden onze experts alle relevante inzichten over de Nasonovia Nr:1-luis en presenteerden we de prestaties van onze IR-resistente rassen. De deelnemers bezochten samen met onze specialisten het demoveld, waarna we de dag afsloten met een informele netwerkborrel.
Een succesvol event met internationale impact
We kijken terug op een bijzonder geslaagde editie van de Discovery Field Days. We danken alle aanwezigen voor hun enthousiasme en betrokkenheid, en kijken uit naar een vruchtbare samenwerking in het komende seizoen.
