Bayer reaches socially acceptable agreements for withdrawal from Frankfurt/Main site and secures remaining company sites in Germany until 2030

Leverkusen, Germany
July 10, 2025

The management and employee representatives on the Supervisory Board of Bayer AG have agreed on the key points of a joint declaration on securing sites and socially acceptable personnel adjustments in Germany after 2026. In this declaration, the Group Executive Board guarantees that all existing company sites in Germany will remain in operation until 2030. The only exception is the site in Frankfurt am Main, from which the Crop Science division will withdraw by 2028, as previously announced. The contents of the joint statement will apply to all Group companies in Germany for the first time and will be gradually incorporated into collective agreements by mid-2026.

“Germany is and will remain important to Bayer. We have modern sites, committed employees and a wealth of valuable expertise here. We want to continue to leverage this potential together in the future to further develop Bayer in the interests of its customers, employees and all stakeholders,” says Bill Anderson, Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer AG.

"Bayer's decision announced in mid-May to withdraw from Frankfurt and cut jobs at other sites is a bitter blow for the colleagues affected, but also for Germany as a business location. In our negotiations with the employer, it was therefore very important to us not only to provide the best possible support for the employees directly affected, but also to obtain assurances for all other colleagues at Bayer in Germany that there will be no further site closures in the coming years. Our aim is to create fair, secure and viable prospects for all employees in Germany – we have succeeded in doing this with the key points of the joint statement," state Heike Hausfeld, Chairwoman of the Central Works Council of Bayer AG, and Francesco Grioli, member of the Executive Board of IGBCE.

Comprehensive package of measures for the Frankfurt site

For the Frankfurt site, the key points provide for a comprehensive package of measures to ensure that Bayer's withdrawal is socially acceptable. The planned measures range from protecting current working conditions in the event of the planned sale, to support for employees relocating from Frankfurt to Monheim, to attractive severance packages and assistance in finding new employment outside Bayer.

Following collective protection against dismissal for some employees, individual protection will be provided for all employees of the Bayer Group in Germany from 2027. Employees whose jobs are eliminated in the company as of January 2027 and who do not leave with a severance payment after a six-month reflection period will be granted a protection phase for professional reorientation, graded according to their length of service, during which dismissal for operational reasons is excluded.
