Hazera Genetics, Israel’s largest seed company announced that it has completed the acquisition of L.S.L Biotechnologies Inc. & L.S.L Plant Science, LLC, specializing in the cultivation, production and marketing of long shelf-life tomato varieties primarily in the North American market.
L.S.L. has achieved great success due to its development of varieties combining long shelf-life properties and firm fruit together with high quality product. LSL ’s developments enable tomatoes to preserve both their long shelf-life and flavor when they are picked red. In the past, long shelf-life required picking tomatoes when they were still green, which impaired their flavor, and long shelf-life could only be attained using gas treatment.
Hazera Genetics is one of the world’s leading companies in the fields of research, cultivation, production and marketing of a wide range of tomato varieties. Some of Hazera’s varieties were developed by a team from the Faculty of Agriculture, headed by Professor Nachum Keidar, who also developed the tomato varieties for LSL .
According to Rami Dar, CEO of Hazera Genetics: “The acquisition of LSL is expected to complement Hazera Genetics’ comprehensive line of tomato products and to strengthen our position in North America, and other markets throughout the world".
Hazera Genetics is one of the world's leading companies in the field of breeding, production and marketing of hybrid seeds for vegetables and field crops, specializing in advanced bio-technological research and development, worldwide distribution and agro-technical support. The company, established seven decades ago, is constantly developing new products that address market demands, including improved health and nutritional benefits, quality, especially high yields, year round availability, resistance to diseases and longer shelf life.
