2022 Australian Cotton Conference launched: “Here for Good

Australia
March 3, 2022

After a few years of disruptions due to the pandemic the Australian Cotton Conference is back in 2022 with a program expected to engage, challenge and unite this important agricultural industry at time of great opportunity and change.

To be held in person on Queensland’s Gold Coast from 16-18 August the program will centre around the theme “Here for Good”, exploring cutting edge cotton science, contributions to the economy and regional communities and resilience in the face of many recent challenges.

According to Chair Hamish McIntyre the challenges of drought, a global pandemic, international trade issues and multiple floods experienced since the 2018 Conference have also offered great opportunities.

“We’re looking to harvest the second largest crop we’ve ever grown due to a break in the drought and relatively high prices which have provided a much needed boost to our farming families and their communities.  But we’re also dealing with logistics issues, labour shortages and soaring production costs,” Hamish said.

“I believe as an industry we have really felt the absence of our Conference over the last few years and am looking forward to exploring issues, ideas and opportunities with industry experts and my fellow farmers.

“The Conference provides the latest research advice, an opportunity to see beyond the farm and to network with my industry and peers.  We’re a proud industry and we are here for good,” he said.…/2

“Our volunteer committee is currently working hard on topics, presenters and social events to attract new and experienced growers and a diverse range of delegates from right along the supply chain,” Hamish said.

“While the program is still in development, it’s likely we’ll cover research topics such as agronomy, water use efficiency and carbon farming and business topics like succession planning, risk management and leadership,” Hamish said.

Confirmed keynote presenters include economist and demographer Bernard Salt, author and business leader Lucy Bloom, and inspirational Olympian Steven Bradbury.

One of the largest Trade Shows in Australian agriculture with around 100 exhibitors will provide a focal point for the critical networking and socialising that brings the industry together during Conference, as well as showcasing the new products and technologies taking Australian cotton to the next level.

The Committee is determined to produce a COVID-safe Conference where there’s ‘something for everyone’, new delegates feel comfortable, families and the next generation are welcome and where the cost effective registration investment is well worthwhile.

“All of that is made possible by the support of our sponsors and I am pleased to announce we already have major commitments from Foundation Partners CRDC and Cotton Seed Distributors,” Hamish said.

Conference registrations are now open at www.australiancottonconference.com.au.  To sponsor or book an exhibition space, please contact Brian O’Connell on 0413 130 777.

The 2022 Australian Cotton Conference is hosted by Cotton Australia and the Australian Cotton Shippers Association.
