Northern grain growers searching for solutions in the on-going battle against feathertop Rhodes grass can listen to expert advice by logging onto the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) YouTube channel.
It features a recording of the recent GRDC Advances in Weed Management webinar on the ecology and management of feathertop Rhodes grass hosted by well-known ICAN consultant Mark Congreve.
As well as addressing the ecology of feathertop Rhodes grass, the webinar explains how that knowledge can be used to develop effective management strategies.
It forms part of a comprehensive webinar series on important weed management topics, aimed at keeping growers and advisors updated on the latest weed research outcomes, providing a forum for questions and offering timely management recommendations.
Feathertop Rhodes grass (Chloris virgata) is a major weed of fallows and roadsides in central Queensland and is becoming increasingly common in southern Queensland, NSW, Victoria and South Australia.
Control is becoming more challenging with four Australian populations recently confirmed as resistant to glyphosate, forcing growers to rely on an integrated management strategy incorporating practices such as tillage, crop choice, crop competition, residual herbicides and the selective use of double knock applications in fallow.
