New Focus on Soybean webcasts cover drone technology, no-till

St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
March 20, 2014

Whether farmers adopt cutting edge technology like drone aircraft or time-tested, low technology management practices like no-till, the goal is roughly the same: Get the most production out of your acres.

Through the Focus on Soybean webcast resource, the Plant Management Network offers management tips and practices for no-till soybean production and a glimpse of what is to come through the use of drone technology.

Introduction to Unmanned Aircraft Use in Agriculture” by Rory Paul, CEO and Founder of Volt Aerial Robotics, helps consultants, growers, and other practitioners across the United States gain an understanding of basic UAV types that have potential agricultural application. Paul also covers agricultural applications with a focus on crop scouting and mapping, touching on some of the technical challenges to producing geospatially accurate orthophotos. The talk also covers how unmanned systems fit into aerial image acquisition process and their benefits over traditional methods.

No-Till Soybean” by Chad Lee, Associate Extension Professor of Grain Crops at the University of Kentucky helps consultants, growers and other practitioners in the Cornbelt, Mid-South, and Southeast regions with an introduction to no-tillage practices in soybean. In this talk, Lee covers a brief history of no-tillage, the benefits and disadvantages of no-tillage and a comparison of management practices between no-tillage and minimal tillage or conventional tillage systems. By the end of this presentation, viewers will know more about no-tillage in soybean and basic management practices.

These presentations are open access through May 31, 2014. Viewers can also opt to see short executive summary versions of these presentations. Executive summary talks are permanently open access courtesy of the United Soybean Board.
