Early-season weed management, slug management webcasts featured in ‘Focus on Corn’ resource

St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
April 19, 2013

The phrase “Nip the problem in the bud” probably had its beginnings in agriculture, and it certainly applies in early season corn management, particularly when it comes to weeds and, more commonly, slugs.

Across the U.S., early season weed management is critical to stand establishment and protecting yields.  And in the Midwest, Eastern, and Mid-Atlantic regions, where more growers are practicing no-till, slugs are becoming a major issue.

As part of its mission to enhance the health, management, and production of corn crops through quality, science-based information, the Plant Management Network has published two new early season management webcasts in its Focus on Corn’ resource:

Slug Management on Corn” by Dr. Ron Hammond, Professor and Extension Specialist at The Ohio State University helps consultants, growers, and other practitioners in the Midwest, Eastern, and Mid-Atlantic regions manage their slug problems in field crops when using no-till production practices.  This presentation is open access through July 31, 2013.

The Importance of Early Season Weed Management in Corn” by Dr. Mark Loux, professor and weed specialist at The Ohio State University, helps consultants, growers, and other practitioners in the North-Central, and Southern U.S. develop early-season corn herbicide management strategies that ensure effective weed control and maximum yield.  This presentation is open access through June 30, 2013.

These and other Focus on Corn presentations can be viewed at www.plantmanagementnetwork.org/foc.
