Is the goal of producing 300-bushel corn on a national average by 2030 out of reach?
Dr. Roger Elmore, Extension Corn Specialist and Professor of Agronomy at Iowa State University, continues this discussion through Focus on Corn's latest webcast, titled “Corn Production & Pursuit of Maximum Yield.”
The first of this two-part presentation examines the basis of corn yield, where Dr. Elmore examines yield and its components and discusses what it takes to maximize yield. This first part particularly focuses on leaf area dynamics and the importance of maximizing kernel numbers.
By the end of part one, users will understand…
- How yield components work together to produce yield
- The importance of maximizing leaf area
- The impact of stress at different development stages on kernel numbers and yield
This presentation is open access through October 31, 2012, and can be viewed at http://www.plantmanagementnetwork.org/edcenter/seminars/corn/maxyieldpart1/.
