May 16, 2012)-Septoria Leaf Spot is among the more common and destructive of foliar diseases affecting tomatoes, particularly those grown in the eastern United States and Canada.
The Plant Management Network addresses this economically important disease through its latest Focus on Tomato presentation, authored by Tom Zitter, Professor and Extension Plant Pathologist at Cornell University.
In this talk, titled “Septoria Leaf Spot of Tomato,” Dr. Zitter helps consultants, growers, homeowners, practitioners and allied industries in all regions better understand Septoria leaf spot (SLS) and how to manage it.
The presentation shows representative color photos of all aspects of the disease, explains the cause and disease cycle, defines the factors leading to disease, and presents both cultural and chemical management practices.
Development of genetic resistance for SLS is detailed and factors to consider for the deployment of this resistance are discussed.
