BASF introduces Surtain Herbicide, a residual herbicide for eastern Canadian field corn growers

Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
September 9, 2024

  • A powerful combination of group 14 and 15 chemistries for residual weed control in field corn

BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions (BASF) is providing a unique new option for corn growers with the introduction of SurtainTM — a residual herbicide for corn.

Using the first-of-its-kind solid-encapsulated herbicide technology, Surtain delivers residual endurance in the field to provide broad-spectrum control of key broadleaf and grassy weeds, including resistant biotypes.

“Surtain is a premix that contains solid-encapsulated saflufenacil (Group 14) plus pyroxasulfone (Group 15) in a first-of-its-kind formulation, which allows it to be applied from pre-emergence to early post-emergence in field corn,” said Rob Miller, Technical Development Manager, BASF. “In our trials to date, Surtain provides excellent residual activity on key weeds including lamb’s quarters, redroot pigweed, waterhemp, green, yellow and giant foxtail, large crabgrass and barnyard grass.”

Surtain’s residual power is an exceptional tank mix partner to Marksman®, Engenia® or atrazine plus glyphosate.

“We’re excited to bring this innovation to field corn growers in Eastern Canada,” said Chris Vander Kant, Corn, Soybeans and Horticultural Crop Manager, BASF. “Surtain will provide a new, effective solution that delivers residual endurance on key weeds to support a cleaner field.”

Surtain will be available for the 2025 growing season. Please contact your local BASF or retail representative, visit the Surtain product page or watch the video below to learn more.
