Wheat is one of the most important grain crops in the United States and Canada, both as an export and staple food. In the United States, approximately 50% of grain is exported. In order to reap the greatest economic returns, farmers need to keep their crops healthy. As there are many wheat diseases, it can be challenging for farmers to accurately diagnose and manage diseases.
To help wheat farmers, APS PRESS has compiled a highly accessible guide that includes easy-to-use keys and cross-referencing tools that promote efficient diagnosis. A Farmer’s Guide to Wheat Diseases is designed for use in the field and includes general management recommendations that give growers and crop specialists a starting place to discuss more localized treatment recommendations with specialists in their region.
Compiling knowledge and expertise of 43 contributors, this guide is the first comprehensive overview of wheat diseases across the United States and Canada written and priced for farmers. It includes an introduction to wheat diseases and disorders and a nontechnical overview on diagnosing wheat diseases as well as disease descriptions organized by affected plant part and basic instructions for using diagnostic and scouting tools.
