Misinformation campaign challenging the scientific consensus on GM

Australia
October 22, 2013

Last night a campaign was launched to promote a statement from 85 academics claiming there is no scientific consensus on GMO safety. The statement can be found here. The campaign is a UK-based campaign and has received attention on many anti-GM blogs and a few larger media outlets, including the Independent and the Herald Sun.

Some examples of articles on the issue can be found

The statement released last night flies in the face of the consensus of an overwhelming majority of scientists. Every legitimate scientific organisation that has examined the evidence has arrived at
the conclusion that GM crops and the foods they produce pose no risk to human health or the environment beyond those posed by their conventional counterparts.

Some helpful sources of information on this issue are:

ABCA and its members are working on a number of projects to ensure that the scientific consensus on the issue of GMO safety is clearly communicated and understood.
