Aarhus University, Department of Agroecology - Slagelse, Denmark
The overall aim of this workshop is to introduce optical technologies (like multispectral imaging, NIRS, electrophotography and X-ray) in seed evaluation. The participants learn about and practice the use of imaging technologies for seed evaluation.
Previous proficiency tests showed unexpected results between participants. This workshop will help participants to train on seed health testing methods for detecting fungi and harmonize notations.
The event will be held in collaboration with the Association of Official Seed Analysts (AOSA) and the Society of Commercial Seed Technologists (SCST).
This will be the first time that the three seed testing associations will be holding a joint Annual Meeting.
Renaissance Denver Stapleton Hotel - Denver, CO, United States
The first part will cover principles and applications of tolerances in seed testing. The second part of the workshop will cover how to establish a referee study.
Statistical distributions usually found in seed testing; Sampling principles for seed testing; Seed testing plans for adventitious presence testing or low level testing using qualitative and quantitative assays; Seed testing plans for purity testing; Statistical outlier...
The workshop will be focused on two of the ISTA validated tests, the Radicle Emergence test and the Conductivity test. The workshop will be made up of practical experience of the two tests, lectures and interactive seminars.
Participants will evaluate seedlings from testing methods on two seed lots of corn and two soybean seed lots and will see how their results compare to the class average, high and low results. Traditional seed testing methods include warm germination (sand, rolled paper ...
The emphasis of the week will be on seed identification through working with samples, advice from instructors, and use of electronic and hard copy references. Participants will have the opportunity to work with up to 32 species of seeds, grasses, legumes, cereals plus w...
Participants will gain experience evaluating seedlings of 16 species (crops, vegetables, flowers grasses, etc.) from the warm germination test plus work with cold tests, accelerated aging, tests for biotech traits (herbicide bioassay, immunoassay), tetrazolium and more.
This workshop will provide an overview of Seed health testing methods and method validation principle as well as methods to check the performance of their quality system: ability to implement a method, proficiency tests organization. It will allow participants to work w...
