Alberta Wheat Commission welcomes the resumption of South Korea wheat trade

Calgary, Alberta, USA
June 26, 2018

The Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC) is pleased that South Korea has resumed imports of Canadian wheat thanks to rigorous testing, proving no evidence of GM wheat in commercial shipments.

The quick resolution of this issue verified the integrity of the Canadian science-based regulatory and quality control systems implemented and managed by the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

“This resolution is a critical step forward in providing assurance to Canadian wheat customers that Canada does not produce or ship genetically modified wheat,” says Kevin Bender, AWC Chair.

AWC is confident ongoing work involving the Canadian wheat industry, the Government of Canada and our Japanese customers will lead to a continuation of normal trade with one of Canada’s top wheat customers.
