UK Lettuce crop showing symptoms of Fusarium Wilt

We attended the AHDB (Agricultural & Horticultural Development Board) Workshop in December on the outbreak of Fusarium Wilt in Lettuce concerning Race 4 being found in the UK for the first time. Fusarium Wilt (F. oxysporum f. sp. lactucae) is a soil-borne fungal pathogen; once ground is contaminated it remains in the soil for long periods of time and therefore has the potential to have a devastating effect on lettuce and baby leaf production.

Following this we are reviewing our hygiene protocols to ensure that all our procedures are up to date so as to prevent the spread of the disease.

AHDB provides the following guidance in hygiene procedures:

Hygiene Protocol, Fusarium in Lettuce
Teagasc Document – Hygiene measures to reduce spread of Fusarium Wilt
