Australia - Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) releases report on the 2017 study of community attitudes to gene technology

The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has released a report on the 2017 study of public attitudes towards genetically modified organisms (GMOs), gene technology and its regulation. The OGTR commissioned Instinct and Reason to conduct the study and prepare the report which is available on our website under ‘What’s New’.
The report explores longitudinal changes in:
- awareness of, and trust in, the Regulator, OGTR and regulation
- awareness of, and attitudes towards, GMOs and biotechnology (including new technologies)
- acceptance of GMOs and GM foods, including relative to other production systems, and the influence on acceptance of factors such as regulation, benefits of the technology or labelling
- perceptions of the prevalence of GM crops in Australia
- differences in awareness and attitudes between key demographics
