California Seed Association's Industry Communications & Youth Activities Committee sponsors another successful Fall Seed Tour for Students in the Salinas Valley
California, USA
September 28, 2016
The CSA Fall Seed Tour for students took place on September 15th and 16th with 42 students and 2 advisors participating this year representing five California colleges - CSU Fresno, CSU Chico, UC Davis, Cal Poly Pomona and Hartnell College. This annual tour takes the students on a bus tour to visit nurseries and seed companies so they can be introduced to various aspects of the seed industry.
This year's touring facilities included: Central Valley Seeds, Gowan Seed Co., Seed Dynamics Inc., American Takii Inc., Radicle Seed Co. and Headstart Nursery. Thank you to all of our tour guides and to Curtis Vaughan for the wonderful barbeque lunch that the group enjoyed as they wrapped up their tour at Seed Dynamics Inc.
There was an opportunity for the students to visit with CSA members and ask questions; it is a perfect way for them to learn more about the seed industry and what it takes to breed, produce and market their product. At the end of the tour the students were briefed on the opportunities for internships at member companies as well as at the California Seed Association and were reminded that scholarship opportunities are available at many companies and groups in agriculture. These ag-minded students were energized and excited about the pursuit of a career in agriculture and were reminded of the various aspects within each company and career paths that they had not yet considered.
American Takii
On behalf of the CSA we extend our appreciation to the hosts and sponsors and all of the staff that took the time to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with this group of students.
