AgVenture's Intern and New Hire Summer Education Program a success

Johnston, Iowa, USA
August 26, 2016

When it comes to learning with purpose, AgVenture, Inc. (AVI) provides interns and trainees with one of the most comprehensive education programs in the industry. “It is paramount that our AgVenture Yield Specialists are highly trained to be responsive and effective, helping our customers gain more profitability from every acre,” said AgVenture, Inc. General Manager, Matthew Paul. “Our Intern and New Hire Education Program assures that each individual is exceptionally equipped to get the job done at the highest level.”

For more than 30 years, AVI has been the nation’s largest network of independently owned and operated Regional Seed Companies (RSCs). As a national brand, AgVenture has distinguished itself by providing high-performing, locally selected seed with industry-leading seed treatments and seed quality. In addition, AgVenture Yield Specialists and RSCs work together with customers throughout the year, providing them with the latest production management strategies and techniques, including the Maximum Profit System™.

The AVI Intern and New Hire Education Program is a ten-week hands-on, agronomic, sales and leadership experience. “It is comprehensive, and focuses on providing real-life field and networking experiences,” said Program Coordinator, Nevada Weitl. “We take a dedicated approach to molding these young people through participation in classroom-type education, in sales professional improvement programs, and in-field agronomy training. They work with AVI staff, RSCs and industry leaders in agronomy and sales.”

The 2016 class included 14 individuals from various universities and community colleges across the country. Weitl added, “We are actively working with universities and community colleges across the country to find the best recruits. The program has continued to grow, and we look forward to meeting with new intern candidates and future AgVenture Yield Specialists at college career fairs across the country this fall.”

Dakota Westphal of Remington, Indiana served as an Intern with AgVenture D&M based at Kentland, Indiana. The Purdue University student said, “Through this internship, I learned in a nurturing, family environment. It allowed me the opportunity to learn and practice what I will be doing as an employee. I developed practical skills that will help my customers and the company in the future. It has had a huge, positive impact on my life and career.”

Weitl added, “It is so important for participants to fully experience what our AgVenture Yield Specialist role is all about. As they experience the summer internship, they learn if the role is the right fit for their future. During the past four years, we have hired nearly half of those who have participated in the program. They are actively serving their customers year-round with one-on-one professional support. It is an advantage for our customers, our RSCs and our AgVenture® brand.”
