Learn how to grow seed commercially in California with the Organic Seed Alliance

Join the Organic Seed Alliance (OSA) and the Northern California Seed Hub for this two-day training on how to incorporate seed production in your diversified farm plan. OSA’s Jared Zystro and Steve Peters, along with Ellen Bartholomew of Golden Rule and Jamie Chevalier of Bountiful Gardens, will cover the following for this hands-on event:

  • Seed production biology
  • Hands-on seed harvesting and cleaning
  • Choosing seed crops for your system and climate
  • Managing population size and isolation distance
  • Conducting variety trials
  • Basic on-farm breeding techniques
  • Seed production economics and finding markets for your seed

Participants are welcome to attend one or both days of the training. The Fundamentals of Commercial Organic Seed Production Workshop will be held August 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the Seed Production Field Day will be held the following day on August 27th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration costs include vegetarian lunches. Spanish translation will be provided by Multinational Exchange for Sustainable Agriculture (MESA).
