Between 21st-30th June, Germains attended the four British Beet Research Organisation (BBRO) Field Demonstration Days held at various locations around sugar beet growing areas in Wimblington, Garboldisham, Wymondham and Hibaldstow. Germains showcased both an innovation plot and a commercial stand at each of the events, which presented a great opportunity to talk to growers and other industry representatives about upcoming new products we are developing to support and grow the UK’s sugar beet industry.
Innovation Plots showcase results of new product development
Germains innovation plot showcased information on new products developed exclusively for the UK market, with technical and research scientists on hand to share information and answer questions. Alongside a poster which displayed results of the new products, Germains also presented trays of seedlings showing new product samples and the benefits of primed versus unprimed products.

To be launched into the UK market, one of the new products includes a new pellet type which is a lighter, harder pellet that regulates water uptake. From 2011 to 2015, trials completed showed an average yield increase of 2.5%. Germains have also been investigating the effect of a range of seed applied treatments to improve stress tolerance, crop establishment, plant growth and ultimately yield of sugar beet.

As well as the innovation plots, Germains commercial stand provided information on the benefits that our Priming, Pelleting and Filmcoating treatments deliver to the UK sugar beet crop and a chance for visitors collect some useful merchandise.
Germains also presented a video which follows the journey of a Sugar Beet Seed through the Germains facility, and welcomes visitors to tours of our site in King’s Lynn. How well do you know Germains?
The stand also offered the chance for visitors to collect BASIS points by completing a ‘How well do you know Germains?’ questionnaire. The questionnaire included questions on seed storage, the certification label and branding. Collecting points allows BASIS members to stay up-to-date with all the latest developments in the Industry.
