Germains was proud to sponsor the operator training ‘drilling for better establishment’ sessions organised by the British Beet Research Organisation (BBRO) this month, providing an excellent guide to obtaining optimum performance for both the drill and its operator.
The sessions began with an introduction of the importance of achieving the perfect seed bed through the education of practical soil management and cultivation techniques with British Sugar’s Agricultural Development Manager, Colin Walters.
Tessa Seymour, Commercial Development Manager at Germains, also provided an introduction to Germains and our commitment to UK sugar beet. This involved an insight into the unique and quality driven journey sugar beet seed follow through our priming, pelleting and filmcoating treatments. Seymour also emphasised the importance of quality management standards practiced by Germains’ specialised Quality Control department.
Seed handling and storage was also discussed, highlighting the need of handling seed with protective gloves and appropriate clothing. It was also advised to store the seed in a cool, dry, ventilated place with any opened boxes with seed should be stored in a sealed, polythene bag. Further information was also provided on our industry-leading Xbeet® plus seed technology, which creates a smoother, rounder and more uniformed seed to support precision drilling, optimising crop establishment, growth and final yield.

Kverneland drill manufacturer representatives Don Campbell and Rob Thornton were also in attendance, delivering an update on the latest technological developments, followed by a session on the importance of effective drill maintenance to promote crop establishment and growth.
