Nufarm is retiring one of its hard-working burndown herbicides as newer products offer solutions for growers in Eastern Canada. Amitrol (Group 11) is a pre-seed burndown registered for control in cereals, corn and soybeans. Amitrol 240 has been widely known as a “go-to” product for growers struggling with glyphosate-resistant fleabane and giant ragweed as well as perennial dandelions. The exceptional control of horsetail, clover and alfalfa has made Amitrol a favourite choice for pasture renovations.
“We have made an independent decision to take Amitrol off the market at the end of this year,” says Blair Bossuyt, Commercial Manager for Eastern Canada with Nufarm Agriculture Inc. “We are replacing it with our newer chemistry products including BlackHawk® and Valtera® for pre-seed weed control in cereals and soybeans.”
Nufarm will continue to sell Amitrol until July 2016. Existing inventories of Amitrol will be available through retailers in Eastern Canada until all current stock is sold. A registration expiry date has not been established. Growers are encouraged to contact their local retailer about availability.

Nufarm va retirer l’un de ses herbicides les plus puissants lors de traitement de brûlage puisque de nouveaux herbicides sont disponibles aux producteurs de l’Est du Canada. Amitrol (Groupe 11) est un herbicide homologué comme traitement de brûlage en présemis dans les céréales, maïs et soya. Amitrol 240 a été largement reconnu par les producteurs confrontés à la prêle des champs et le pissenlit. La suppression exceptionnelle du trèfle et de la luzerne a contribué à faire d’Amitrol le produit favori pour la régénération des pâturages.
« Nous avons pris une décision indépendante de retirer Amitrol du marché à la fin de la présente année, » déclare Blair Bossuyt, Directeur commercial pour l’Est Canada chez Nufarm Agriculture Inc. « Nous allons le remplacer par des herbicides plus récents comme BlackHawkMD et ValteraMC pour un désherbage en présemis dans les céréales et le soya.»
Nufarm continuera de vendre Amitrol jusqu’en juillet 2016. Les inventaires existants d’Amitrol seront disponibles par l’intermédiaire des détaillants de l’Est Canada jusqu’à épuisement des stocks. Aucune date de fin d’homologation n’a été déterminée. Les producteurs sont invités à communiquer avec leur détaillant local au sujet de la disponibilité.
