Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Aarhus University enters into an extensive partnership with Nanjing Agricultural University in China

Aarhus, Denmark
June 9, 2010

With the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the forefront, Aarhus University has recently signed an agreement of cooperation with Nanjing Agricultural University in China. This took place during the visit by a delegation from Nanjing Agricultural University to Aarhus University in May.

Most of the visit took place at the faculty’s research centre in Foulum. Besides a tour of the research facilities, the Chinese delegation was given a talk about the faculty’s China strategy and about concrete possibilities for collaboration. Leading employees from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at Aarhus University presented selected research areas to the new partners and the Chinese guests likewise described what they have to offer.

Areas that Nanjing Agricultural University is involved in are like hand in glove to the areas that the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences works with. The focus areas in the agreement are areas in which the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at Aarhus University has a lot of expertise and is a world leader. Examples of this are animal and plant breeding and genetics, agricultural biotechnology, biomass and sustainable energy, food quality and safety, horticulture (fruit, vegetables and ornamental plants), biosystems technology, including robots, and a wide range of areas covering sustainable management of the environment, nature and agriculture.

Broad collaboration

The collaboration can become wide-reaching and extensive. It includes scientist and student exchange, cooperation regarding research and education, and cooperation on scientific events such as conferences, seminars and symposia.

The management at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences has previously visited the university in Nanjing, so the foundation was already laid for an exciting collaboration in the autumn of 2009.

The visit to Denmark by the management from Nanjing Agricultural University will be followed up by yet another visit to Denmark later this year, in which leading professors from the Chinese university will participate.

Nanjing Agricultural University is the oldest of the four national agricultural universities in China. It has 16 colleges and more than 100 international cooperation partners. The university emphasizes research in food production and food safety.
