Progeny Advanced Genetics welcomes Pedro Alonso Jimenez, as the newest member of Progeny’s plant breeding and seed development team. Mr. Jimenez is a natural fit for Progeny’s global expansion goals, based on his experience working with challenges presented by desert and subtropical regions throughout Europe, Latin America, Australia, Mexico and Africa.
As a breeder with extensive experience, Pedro Alonso brings a wealth of lettuce seed expertise to Progeny’s research initiatives. His work has provided for the development of genetic lines that include heat tolerance, disease resistance and offers specialty products that appeal to consumers throughout the world.
Progeny’s CEO, Josep Trias, and Executive Research and Development Officer, Darryn Gibson, selected Pedro Alonso from a pool of candidates. Pedro Alonso stood out based on his career and foundational field work carried out to enhance the genetic breadth in lettuce through improvement in flavor, texture, disease resistance, and heat tolerance. Mr. Jimenez has developed varieties specifically for growers across Europe, Morocco, Australia, Africa, Mexico and throughout Latin America, improving seed advancements for farmers and seed resellers interested in strengthening regional seed systems.
With a career path that clearly aligns with Progeny’s long-term breeding goals, Pedro Alonso will work to expand Progeny’s plant breeding station in Spain and will assist Jennifer Emerson, Progeny’s Executive Operations Officer, in Progeny’s global product launch plans.
