Jim Torkelson to lead AgVenture ProfiSeed Sales and Agronomy team

Kentland, Indiana, USA
March 16, 2010

Jim Torkelson has joined AgVenture ProfiSeed and will serve the Hampton, Iowa based company as Sales and Agronomy Lead. Torkelson will provide direction and support to the company’s internal sales team. He will also focus on agronomic leadership working directly with customers to help them most proficiently achieve their Maximum Profit System (MPS) goals.

Torkelson stated, “I look forward to advancing the mission of AgVenture’s MPS across the company and across the area. I have a strong passion for working with growers. Through MPS, I see an exceptional opportunity to help growers make marked gains toward increasing their profitability and production.” AgVenture’s MPS is a systematic approach toward dramatically increasing yield, lowering cost per bushel and improving profitability on every acre and across the operation.

AgVenture Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Jim Groepper said, “Jim Torkelson brings AgVenture ProfiSeed a unique combination of fresh ideas, hard science and intelligent thinking. Jim provides us with the knowledge and experience our growers expect when engaging in MPS. It is a total system that is providing area growers with increased profitability across their entire operation. Adding Jim helps us build ProfiSeed’s momentum across Northwestern and North Central Iowa and Southern Minnesota.”

When asked about AgVenture, Torkelson said, “Sourcing germplasm from multiple alternative breeding systems is a smart strategy. AgVenture is not just focused on a single trait package, not focused on simply on price or just the bag of seed. Working for AgVenture ProfiSeed, I have the opportunity to access the best product and technology pipelines to get the best product for our local fields and crop environments.”

Torkelson began his career as a plant breeder with Thompson Seeds. From there, he pursued sales positions serving in sales and management roles for Crow’s, Channel Bio and ASI. Torkelson said, “With a background in genetics, I have a strong respect for AgVenture’s product line up. I love the company’s business model. The regional focus of each regional seed company strongly enhances the type of positive impact we can have with each grower on their acres.”

Together with his wife, Jodi, the Torkelson’s have two daughters; four year-old Micah and one month-old Elise. They reside in Mason City, Iowa.
