BioWorks adds botanical insecticide / nematicide to its product line

Victor, New York, USA
February 25, 2010

BioWorks announces the addition of Molt-X™ Botanical Insecticide / Nematicide to their product line. Recently EPA approved, Molt-X has multiple modes of action to provide broad-spectrum control over pests such as aphids, whiteflies, thrips, mealybugs, scales, plant-parasitic nematodes and many more.

Molt-X works primarily as an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) that disrupts the molting process in insects. Once treated with Molt-X, insects become sluggish, stop feeding, and fail to mature and reproduce. Molt-X also acts as an insect repellent, antifeedant, and ovipositional deterrent. These multiple modes of action make it a highly effective tool for use in a resistance management program.

Other key product features of Molt-X are that it leaves no residue on plant foliage and flowers; has no phytotoxicity issues on most plants; is generally safe on beneficial insects and bees; and is compatible for tank-mixing/rotation with other registered inputs including BotaniGard® and SuffOil-X®.

"This is an excellent compliment to our existing products," commented John Francis, BioWorks' Director of Technical Services. "Molt-X has been tested and shown to be an effective tank-mix and rotational partner with both BotaniGard and SuffOil-X. By using the combinations in a pest management program, you can control resistant insects and reduce the likelihood of resistance development," he explained.

Molt-X is an emulsifiable concentrate containing 3% azadirachtin - the most potent of the insect-active compounds found in the neem tree. While it is derived from neem seed, Molt-X is not a neem oil. It has a 4-hour Restricted Entry Interval (REI), zero-day pre-harvest interval and is labeled for use on a broad range of turfgrass, outdoor shrubs, trees, ornamentals and food crops as well as on greenhouse ornamentals, shadehouse, interiorscape and nurseries. BioWorks will offer Molt-X in both quarts and convenient pint sizes in approved states beginning March 1, 2010. Visit www.bioworksinc.com for an updated listing of approved states.
