On Monday morning Anton van Doornmalen was appointed as honorary life member of ISF (International Seed Federation) during the opening ceremony of the ISF convention in Beijing. Anton van Doormalen was managing director of Rijk Zwaan and is still involved in the company as shareholder and advisor. He received the award for his commitment for the branch organization since 1995.
Anton van Doornmalen was member of the general board of ISF for many years, and up to and including last year, chairman of the vegetable seeds section for nine years. In this role he passionately committed to matters such as intellectual property, phytosanitary measurements and biodiversity. In his acceptance speech he therefore mentioned the importance to continue approaching the value of these matters together, and in good collaboration, ‘from a strong and healthy seed sector’.
Anton told the branch-associates present that he did his work for the ISF with great pleasure. ‘Very often it was a true privilege.’ He feels honoured with the appointment and thanks the ISF for this, and also Dutch branch organization Plantum, all business partners from the world of vegetable seeds that he has collaborated with throughout the years, and especially all colleagues of Rijk Zwaan.

Anton van Doornmalen is op maandagochtend tijdens de openingsceremonie van het ISF congres in Beijing benoemd tot honorary life member van ISF (International Seed Federation). De voormalig directeur van Rijk Zwaan, als aandeelhouder en adviseur nog steeds aan het bedrijf verbonden, kreeg de onderscheiding vanwege zijn grote inzet voor de branche-organisatie sinds 1995.
Anton van Doornmalen was jarenlang lid van het algemeen bestuur van de ISF en tot en met vorig jaar negen jaar lang voorzitter van de groentezadensectie. In die rol zette hij zich met veel passie in voor kwesties als intellectueel eigendom, fytosanitaire maatregelen en biodiversiteit. In zijn dankwoord noemde hij dan ook het belang dit soort zaken met elkaar en in goede samenwerking te blijven benaderen, ‘vanuit een sterke en gezonde zaadsector’.
Anton liet de aanwezige branche-genoten weten zijn werk voor de ISF met plezier gedaan te hebben. ‘Het was vaak een voorrecht.’ Hij voelt zich vereerd met de onderscheiding en bedankt hiervoor het ISF, de Nederlandse brancheorganisatie Plantum, alle zakenpartners uit de zaadwereld waar hij al die jaren mee heeft samengewerkt, en vooral ook alle collega’s bij Rijk Zwaan.
