LemnaTec installation at the Danforth Center's Bellwether Foundation Phenotyping Facility
Aachen Germany
April 2014
The system combines a temperature- and light-controlled plant growth environment with a LemnaTec MovingField Scanalyzer System to move plants through three instrument chambers. Real-time measurements of plant growth, photosynthetic ability and water content are captured using three-dimensional imaging techniques.
Analysis of image data is done through the high-performance computing capabilities of the Danforth Center’s Bioinformatics Core, and the LemnaLauncher Plant Phenomics Software Platform. The Scanalyzer 3 D Plant Phenomics Platform can be used for traits like
- Biotic Stress Resistances
- Abiotic Stress Resistances
- Herbicide Tolerances
- Reproduction Traits
Some of the most used Phenomics Parameters:
- Canopy area (projected plant area)
- Plant orientation: moment ratio (Centre of plant mass)
- Plant roundness
- Plant compactness
- Root development rate (through biomass)
- Plant biomass
- Biomass accumulation per day
