Dan Good, Drussel Seed Company, Garden City, Kansas named 2013 Premier Seed Grower by Kansas Crop Improvement Association

Kansas, USA
February 24, 2014

Dan Good, Drussel Seed Company, Garden City, Kansas was named 2013 Premier Seed Grower by Kansas Crop Improvement Association at the 2014 Kansas Seed and Crops Conference held in Manhattan on February 19.

To qualify for the award, members must have several years of experience as a certified seed producer, their business must have certified seed as a major component, must exhibit quality consciousness in all production and sales practices, and must be involved in public service activities.

Good grew up helping his father, who farmed and operated a cow/calf operation in Garnett, KS. It was from his dad that he acquired a love of the land and as an adult, worked with him in the 1970’s. He attended Rutgers University – College of Agriculture and Environmental Science, New Brunswick, NJ and graduated from Ottawa University, Ottawa, KS with a bachelor’s degree in biology/chemistry.

In the late 1970’s, Good moved to Garden City and through the years, worked for Garst Seed Co., ICI Seed, and Garden City Seed, before going to work for Drussel Seed & Supply as production manager. His commitment to Kansas certified seed has been displayed by serving on the standards committee and working, for a brief time, promoting hard white wheat when the program was in its early stages.

Good’s love for agriculture extends through his sons who have both worked in some aspect of the seed industry. Dan had great pride when his son, Jason, a Specialist First Class in the Kansas Army National Guard, was deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 with the first Agribusiness Development Team, ADT #1, to assist local Afghan community leaders in improving their agricultural base. Dan enjoys gardening and is now encouraging his grandchildren to be good stewards of the land by giving them the opportunity to learn how things grow.

Dan and his wife Denice, have been married for 42 years and have 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-granddaughters.

Since its inception in 1930, 160 Premier Seed Grower awards have been presented. Recipients are selected by ballot with previous year’s honorees casting the votes. The award presentation is sponsored by the High Plains Journal.
