Ninth annual Colorado Ag Classic planned for December 11-12

Colorado, USA
November 25, 2013

The ninth annual Colorado Ag Classic will be held December 11-12 at the Embassy Suites in Loveland, CO. The Colorado Ag Classic is the joint convention of the Colorado Association of Wheat Growers (CAWG), the Colorado Corn Growers Association (CCGA), Colorado Sunflower Administrative Committee (CSAC) and the Colorado Seed Growers Association (CSGA).

The convention will begin on the afternoon of December 11, with a Legislative Townhall where attendees can discuss political topics affecting agriculture with legislators who influence our industry at the state capitol.

Three pesticide recertification sessions will be held beginning at 4:00 p.m., focusing on: 1. Applicator safety, 2. Use of pesticides, and 3. Public safety. Attendees may attend as many sessions as they wish. Three credits are available, and the 2013 sessions do not repeat any of the 2012 sessions.

The evening will continue with dinner and a fundraising auction, with proceeds going to benefit CAWG and CCGA’s state and national legislative efforts.

Following dinner is a Casino Night with fun, games, drinks, and a special prize for the big winner, wrapping up with an auction to spend Ag Bucks won at the Casino Night.

Early morning sessions on December 12th include a workers’ compensation safety seminar and a session on Grain Marketing with Dan Maltby, followed by Dr. Craig Beyrouty, Dean of the Colorado State University (CSU) College of Agriculture kicking off the General Session, which also includes Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture John Salazar.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Jay Lehr. His topic will be: “Today’s Golden Age of Agriculture in a Resilient Economy.” Dr. Lehr combines five decades of expertise and experience in agricultural economics, agronomy, environmental science and business administration with the most contagious enthusiasm for the future of the American farm and ranch. He never fails to lift the spirits of the men and women working in every facet of agri-business today.

Meteorologist Brian Bledsoe will return to the Ag Classic, with “Making Weather Work for You – Looking Ahead to 2014.”

Additional sessions include: “Effects of Healthcare Reform on Agriculture,” “The Quest for High Yield,” and “The Future of Farming” with representatives from CSU, the Irrigation Research Farm, and Agricultural Research Service.

A trade show will also take place during the Colorado Ag Classic. Representatives from agricultural businesses from around the state will be present to answer questions on their products.
