The Future Seed Executives (FuSE) Initiative is an official sub-committee of the American Seed Trade Association’s (ASTA) Management Skills Committee. FuSE Educational Unit forums are designed as regional opportunities to expand learning, cultivate management skills, promote networking, and improve general understanding of the seed industry.
The upcoming Educational Unit will not only provide an excellent learning opportunity, but also a venue for leaders like you to exchange ideas with a highly interdisciplinary group of scientists, seed industry executives and future executives, and experts in the challenges and opportunities of southern agriculture.

FuSE Educational Unit in Raleigh, North Carolina October 22-24, 2013
Tuesday, October 22nd - The event will kick-off with an evening reception sponsored by Syngenta at the Baby Moon Cafe in Morrisville, followed by two days of programming that includes presentations from industry leaders and tours of world-class research facilities.
Wednesday, October 23rd - The program will include a tour of Cotton Inc.'s Textile Research facilities, demonstrating stops along the cotton value chain, as well as a visit to the North Carolina Biotech Center (NCBC). Speakers will include Kater Hake, Vice President of Agricultural and Environmental Research for Cotton Inc., Dr. Alan Franzluebbers, USDA Professor of Soil Science at North Carolina State University, and Paul Ulanch, Executive Director of NCBC. Discussions topics will include NCBC’s role in promoting biotechnology in North Carolina; crop-cover research; the emerging issues in southern agricultural production; and efforts to overcome regional challenges with soil health.
Thursday, October 24th - Participants will tour Syngenta’s Research Triangle Park research labs, where subject matter experts will present an overview of current regional and national challenges to agricultural production and Syngenta’s pipeline of seed solutions, including water optimization and insect/weed resistance. Attendees will also tour Syngenta’s new crop lab, a state of the art facility housing research projects on crops such as corn, soybeans, sugar cane, rice, cereals, vegetables, and sunflowers.
