Thursday, 20 June 2013 saw the celebratory opening of the RZ Tomato Demo Greenhouse Leamington in Canada. Now, in addition to in The Netherlands and Spain, Rijk Zwaan also has a single central facility in Canada where customers can see, taste and assess the company’s complete tomato range.
By inviting customers to visit the demo facility, Rijk Zwaan gives them the chance to gain a complete overall picture of the cultivation and sales opportunities offered by the entire range of tomato varieties for the North American market. The demo facility is aimed primarily at customers from the US and Canada, and many clients from these countries attended the opening. More than 100 farmers and owners of major growing companies took a look around the high-tech greenhouse, gaining a thorough insight into Rijk Zwaan’s extensive tomato range which includes coarse truss tomatoes, grape tomatoes, specialties and cocktail tomatoes.
A wealth of information
At the demo facility, each variety’s progress is monitored in detail. Plant growth is monitored extensively at the demo facility, with Rijk Zwaan specialists not only recording technical data but also assessing the varieties based on taste and quality. This information, combined with the expertise of our crop advisors and chain specialists, enables customers to properly assess the possibilities offered by all our varieties. “The trial results also provide Rijk Zwaan with a wealth of useful information,” comments Marleen van der Torre, Advisor Greenhouse Crops. “By testing the varieties at the demo facility under conditions comparable with local climates, we can make a realistic estimation of how they will perform in practice. This enables us to tailor our range to fully meet the needs and wishes of North American growers, retailers and consumers alike.”

Demolocatie voor Rijk Zwaan in Noord-Amerika
Donderdag 20 juni vond de feestelijke opening van de RZ Tomato Demo Greenhouse Leamington in Canada plaats. Na Nederland en Spanje beschikt Rijk Zwaan nu ook in Canada over één centrale locatie waar klanten het volledige tomatenassortiment kunnen zien, proeven en beoordelen.
Met een bezoek aan de demolocatie biedt Rijk Zwaan haar klanten de mogelijkheid om een totaalbeeld te vormen van de teelt- en afzetmogelijkheden van het volledige tomatenassortiment voor de Noord-Amerikaanse markt. De demo richt zich voornamelijk op klanten uit de VS en Canada, die dan ook in grote getale naar de opening waren gekomen. Meer dan 100 eigenaren van grote teeltbedrijven en telers namen een kijkje in de high-tech kas en kregen zo een totaalbeeld van het brede assortiment, waaronder grove trostomaten, grapes, specialties en cocktailtomaten.
Schat aan informatie
In de demo vinden uitgebreide teeltregistraties plaats; niet alleen vrucht- en gewasgegevens worden vastgelegd, ook worden de rassen op het gebied van smaak en kwaliteit beoordeeld. Gecombineerd met de kennis van onze teeltadviseurs en ketenspecialisten, kunnen klanten zich goed orienteren op de mogelijkheden van al onze rassen. “Ook voor Rijk Zwaan bieden de proefresultaten een schat aan informatie”, aldus Marleen van der Torre, Advisor Greenhouse Crops. “Door de rassen in de demo te testen onder vergelijkbare klimatologische omstandigheden, kunnen we vooraf al een goede inschatting maken hoe ze zullen presteren. Zo kunnen we het assortiment volledig afstemmen op de wensen van de telers, retailers én consumenten in Noord-Amerika”.
