GrassRoots successfully completed Phase II of its NSF SBIR grant, "Constitutive Promoters for Crop Improvement." This Phase II research funded the development of synthetic gene promoters and introns that confer constitutive expression of transgenes. Dr. Tedd Elich, VP & Director of Research, is the PI on the grant. Revenue realized as a result of the commercialization of these expression elements exceeded $1,000,000. The $500,000 Phase IIB award is a matching grant for successful commercialization of Phase II research and will fund further research to improve the design of novel expression elements.
