- Michiel van Lookeren Campagne, Ph.D., has joined Syngenta as President of Syngenta Biotechnology, Inc.
- Will lead global biotechnology research and development and be based in Research Triangle Park

Michiel van Lookeren Campagne, Ph.D., has joined Syngenta to lead global biotechnology R&D at both of the company’s key biotech facilities – the North American biotechnology headquarters, Syngenta Biotechnology, Inc., located in Research Triangle Park and Syngenta Biotechnology China Co. Ltd. located in Beijing. Van Lookeren Campagne will be based in Research Triangle Park, where he will serve as President of Syngenta Biotechnology, Inc.
An accomplished academician and industry professional, van Lookeren Campagne received his university education and doctorate in biology from Leiden University in the Netherlands. Since then, he has acquired more than 20 years of experience working in university and industry settings both in the United States and abroad. Most recently, prior to joining Syngenta, van Lookeren Campagne was the Head of BioScience Research at Bayer CropScience.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Syngenta Biotechnology, Inc. The facility employs more than 400 people and has been growing rapidly, with 60 percent of current employees hired in the past five years and 70 positions filled in 2008 alone. Syngenta Biotechnology China Co. Ltd. opened in October of 2008 and is the first foreign-funded agricultural biotech research institution in China, now with more than 70 employees.
