New South Wales, Australia - Green light for white pea
Australia
October 15, 2012
A new high-yielding white field pea will be launched at a special pulse field day for southern New South Wales growers.
The field day at Wagga Wagga on Friday, October 26, will detail to growers the niche marketing opportunities offered by the new white field pea which has been developed by Pulse Breeding Australia (PBA), with support from the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), and will be commercialised by PBA’s field pea commercial partner SeedNet.
The event at the Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute will also provide growers with a unique opportunity to learn about other new developments within the pulse industry and meet some of Australia’s leading pulse breeders and research agronomists.
The field day, “Pulses: New Opportunities Ahead - Pulse Breeding and Agronomy”, is being hosted by NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) and PBA.
Industry experts from across Australia will discuss future directions and new developments for the pulse industry, nitrogen benefits of pulses, brown manuring options and marketing. Growers will also have the opportunity to have their say on breeding, agronomy and their role in the region.
The event has been organised to coincide with PBA’s annual regional meeting, hosted this year by NSW DPI at Wagga Wagga.
The field day is free and runs from 7.30am to 11.30am. It includes breakfast and morning tea. For further information contact NSW DPI research agronomist, Dr Eric Armstrong, on (02) 6938 1814 or eric.armstrong@dpi.nsw.gov.au, or Pulse Breeding Australia Coordinator, Fleur Winter, on 0417 926 033 or fleurwinter@bigpond.com.
