Rijk Zwaan's Salanova chosen 'Product of the Year' at the  Fresh Market Fair & Conference in Warsaw, Poland

De Lier, The Netherlands
October 2, 2012

Salanova® has been chosen as ‘Product of the Year’ in Poland. This was announced on 28 September 2012 during the Fresh Market Fair & Conference in Warsaw.

Salanova is developed by vegetable breeder Rijk Zwaan. With just one cut, the lettuce separates into numerous small, ready-to-eat leaves. This uniquely convenient feature is perfectly aligned with the current trends in the Polish lettuce market. Hence the concept’s number one position in the Fresh Market Award, that goes to the most innovative product in the fruit and vegetable industry.

Excellent impulse
Managing Director Przemek Opiola of Rijk Zwaan Polska is proud of winning the award. “Our ambition is to further increase the awareness of the Salanova benefits with our business partners: easiness in preparing, a very good flavour and a great diversity. Winning the Fresh Market Award is an excellent impulse for this.”

The benefits of Salanova were also explained at the Fresh Market Fair & Conference, where Rijk Zwaan had its own stand. “It was confirmed that Salanova is still relatively unknown with consumers, but also that the product is welcomed by them with great enthusiasm”, says Opiola. “This only underlines the great potential that Salanova has.”

Freshness and convenience
Salanova has already gained a strong foothold in Poland since being launched there four years ago. Retailers sell the product, delivered by companies like Euroveg, in single or double packs (which contain both a red and a green head), offering consumers a combination of freshness and convenience. Companies who do processing, like Green Factory, are increasingly using Salanova in salad bags because of its unique leaves and high processing efficiency.
