U.S. Secretary of Agriculture scheduled to speak at the 129th Annual Convention of the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA)

Alexandria, Virginia, USA
June 8, 2012

U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will officially welcome attendees of ASTA's 129th Annual Convention to Washington, D.C., during the opening general session June 21.

The opening general session will be held from 8 - 10 a.m. and will feature Secretary Vilsack and Stuart Rothenberg, one of Washington's leading political analysts and pollsters. Together, they will give an overview of the "Political Lay of the Land - the Election and the Economy."

"We are very excited to have Secretary Vilsack speak at our conference," said Andy LaVigne, ASTA president and chief executive officer. "Much of what the seed industry does relies on the folks at the Department of Agriculture from providing basic research to approving new products into the marketplace and from issuing phytosanitary certificates to being an advocate for the industry and all of agriculture."

The 129th Annual Convention, to be held June 20-23 in National Harbor, Md., brings all sectors of the seed industry together to discuss issues, shape policy and provide direction for the future of the association.
