Novozymes introduces new Seed Industry Group

Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
June 7, 2012

Novozymes BioAg, the world leader in bioinnovation has created a new department called the Seed Industry Group to focus on applications of Novozymes technologies at the seed company level. Allan Basnight is the head of this newly created team.

This will mark Basnight’s 33rd year with Novozymes and its legacy companies. Most recently, he was the senior director for sales in North America with EMD Crop BioScience, purchased by Novozymes in 2010.

“With his experience and knowledge, Allan will be a great asset in helping Novozymes BioAg deepen and strengthen its relationships with seed companies,” says Dorn Severtson, business manager USA for Novozymes. “Novozymes leads the industry in the development of beneficial biological products that enhance plant fertility and maximize yield potential. Seed application of the products delivers these benefits to the crop even sooner for greater impact from the season’s start.”

Basnight’s team includes three other professionals located strategically across the U.S. They will support seed companies to help make Novozymes’ current and new products available to growers in-the-bag. The seed industry team will work independently of the field sales teams, so the sales force can continue to provide the service that ag retailers and growers have come to expect from Novozymes. The additional three members of the Novozymes Seed Industry Group are:

  • Kay Little, eastern region sales representative – Little has worked for Novozymes BioAg and its legacy companies for four years, although she has worked in the seed, agronomic services and crop protection industries for more than 25 years.
  • Bill Diemer, central region sales representative – Diemer is a recent addition to Novozymes BioAg, but a seasoned professional with more than 25 years of varied seed industry experience.
  • Robert Todd, western region sales representative – Todd has worked for Novozymes BioAg and its legacy companies for 13 years and has nearly 20 years of seed industry experience. Todd is CCA-certified.

Current seed-applied products from Novozymes BioAg include Torque™ ST for corn, Cue™ for soybeans, and Optimize® Gold and Nitragin® Gold for alfalfa.

Torque ST features LCO (Lipo-chitooligosaccharide) Promoter Technology® for corn. Torque enables the crop to achieve its full genetic potential by enhancing nutritional capabilities that drive natural growth processes that maximize plant health and crop performance from the roots up.

Cue is an isoflavonoid plant signal compound for soybeans. Cue triggers beneficial fungi in the root zone before the plant can activate them naturally. Cue enhances the root structure, which improves nutrient, water, and phosphorus uptake to help plants better overcome environmental stress.

Optimize Gold with LCO Promoter Technology for alfalfa provides season-long benefits – improved root system development, earlier nodulation, improved stand establishment and better plant health. Alfalfa performance is further enhanced when applied with Nitragin Gold, which contains specially selected natural rhizobia strains for the highest levels of nitrogen fixation.

“Our job is to make farmers as efficient and productive as possible on every acre they grow,” says Basnight. “Our goal is to provide technology that enables farmers – and the seed companies that serve them – to maximize the genetics of the seed they are planting, in a convenient and profitable way.”
