Syngenta Canada delivers astounding value to canola growers with fungicide price decrease

Guelph, Ontario, Canada
March 15, 2012

Syngenta Canada Inc. has decreased the price of its canola fungicide, Astound®, by $2.00 per acre in time for the 2012 season. The new Suggested Retail Price is now $22.16 per acre. In addition to this pricing change, Astound also qualifies for a further savings through the Syngenta Partner Program™.

Astound is the only canola fungicide with two modes of action (Group 9 and Group 12), providing a better resistance management package while also delivering contact and systemic control of Sclerotinia stem rot. The result is the most comprehensive Sclerotinia control available and protection of the canola crop’s yield.

“This Astound price reduction means growers can benefit from both top-line and bottom-line returns, as the fungicide will cost them less per acre but also control yield-robbing Sclerotinia infestations,” stated Eric Phillips, Asset Lead, Fungicides and Insecticides for Syngenta Canada.

Sclerotinia stem rot is the most economically significant disease of canola in Western Canada. Yield loss due to Sclerotinia is roughly one-half of the percentage of infected plants in the field. The average Sclerotinia infection in canola is 12% of the field, equating to a 6 bushel per acre yield loss.

“As growers take advantage of the profitability of growing canola, rotations are getting tighter. The importance of controlling Sclerotinia under these conditions is critical, and the value Astound delivers – particularly at this new price – is one we know growers will welcome,” concludes Phillips.
