Axial Xtreme from Syngenta raises the Bar in weed control in spring wheat and barley

Guelph, Ontario, Canada
March 14, 2012

Syngenta Canada Inc. has received registration for Axial® Xtreme, a systemic, post-emergent herbicide for control of the most common, hard-to-control broadleaf and grassy weeds in spring wheat and barley throughout the Prairie provinces.

“Every field is different and so is the weed spectrum,” stated Jon Habok, Asset Lead, Cereals Herbicide for Syngenta Canada. “With Axial Xtreme, spring wheat and barley growers have the foundation for an effective weed control program with not only a broad application window for greater flexibility but also a range of tank-mix partners so they can customize their weed control, field by field.”

With its two modes of action, pinoxaden (Group 1) and fluroxypyr (Group 4), Axial Xtreme has an all-in-one formulation with built-in adjuvant technology to provide control of kochia, cleavers, wild oats, green foxtail, yellow foxtail, barnyard grass, volunteer oats, volunteer canary seed and proso millet, and effectively suppresses wild buckwheat and stork’s-bill in spring wheat and barley.

With one fungicide and seven herbicide tank-mix partners, Axial Xtreme provides a broader spectrum weed control. And with no recropping restrictions, it offers growers the flexibility to manage their crop rotations.

Axial Xtreme is absorbed by the leaves and is rapidly translocated to the growing points of the leaves and stems, affecting both exposed and underground plant tissue. Thorough coverage of the plants is essential for consistent control. Actively growing susceptible grasses stop growing within 48 hours.

Each case of Axial Xtreme contains two 10 L jugs of the all-in-one formulation, enough to treat a total of 40 acres.
