Syngenta helps Canadian soybean growers manage weed resistance and weed shifts with new Flexstar GT herbicide

Syngenta Canada Inc. has received registration for Flexstar® GT, a new, premixed herbicide for glyphosate-tolerant soybeans. Thanks to its two modes of action, Flexstar GT combines contact and residual activity to control Group 2 resistant weeds, while also reducing the probability of weed shifts and glyphosate resistance.
“Growers are looking for ways to stay ahead of glyphosate resistant weeds, which are becoming more pervasive across Eastern Canada,” stated Nathan Klages, Asset Lead Non Selective, Corn and Bean Herbicides for Syngenta Canada Inc. “We have developed Flexstar GT specifically with this challenge in mind. With two active ingredients, Flexstar GT allows soybean growers to move beyond glyphosate alone, decreasing weeds’ abilities to develop resistance.”
Flexstar GT combines fomesafen (Group 14) and glyphosate (Group 9) in one, pre-mix formulation. As a result, unlike competitive products, Flexstar GT delivers fast-acting contact activity plus residual control of many annual broadleaf weeds, including Lamb’s-quarters, redroot pigweed and common ragweed.
“Given its excellent weed control and resistance management properties, Flexstar GT will be the herbicide of choice for glyphosate-tolerant soybean growers in 2012,” concluded Klages.
